FusionCAT Annual Meeting 2021
Today, November 23rd, our group participated in the 2021 FusionCAT Annual Meeting, which counted with the attendance of 41 researchers from different backgrounds, institutions and expertise. The main development areas of the project were explained and the current status of the ongoing research was presented. Comments, questions and constructive criticism were exchanged during the discussions, helping reach the overall conclusion that the FusionCAT project is progressing well and according to schedule. Each of the groups in the consortium achieved the technical objectives that were agreed upon, while at the same time participated in creating an active nuclear fusion community in Catalonia.
Fusion Business Opportunities at Big Science Business Forum (BSBF) 2022
On 4-7 October 2022, the top European Big Science research facilities will meet together with industry in Granada (Spain) in the Big Science Business Forum (BSBF) 2022 to present their business opportunities for the period 2022-2026 worth 37.100 million euros. At this event industry will have a unique opportunity to learn about the Big Science investments in the coming years in different technology areas and to network with key representatives from the Big Science organizations and other stakeholders.
Research Proposal Defence by Fusion Group PhD candidate
The Research Proposal defence of the BSC fusion group’s PhD student Tomás Bensadón took place on Wednesday 20th of October via Zoom. The topic of Tomás’ PhD research project is “Analysis of ITER performance with different heating schemes using predictive integrated plasma modelling“. The project is supervised by the group’s leader ICREA Research Prof. Dr. Mervi Mantsinen, tutored by UPC Prof. Dr. Lluís Batet and funded by EUROfusion.
Fusion Group presentation at the International Conference on Fusion Reactor Materials (ICFRM-20)
The BSC Fusion Group’s researcher Julio Gutiérrez Moreno will be attending and will present our recent progress on the FusionCAT ab initio materials modelling activities at the next International Conference on Fusion Reactor Materials (ICFRM-20) conference. ICFRM is the premier international conference and the leading platform for materials experts studying, developing and qualifying materials for fusion energy facilities from all over the world. This biannual conference focuses on fusion related structural, functional, plasma facing materials, including also irradiation effects, and materials engineering and technologies.
The BSC Fusion group at the 46th annual meeting of Spanish Nuclear Society
Earlier this month, our BSC fusion group attended for the first time the Annual meeting of the Spanish Nuclear Society (Sociedad Nuclear Española). The 46th edition of this annual event (link to full programme with papers) took place in Granada from 6th to the 8th of October. This congress is a key event for stakeholders from state, industry and research sectors with interest in the Spanish nuclear energy sphere to meet, network and discuss the future of the field. Our group member Pedro Bonilla presented BSC’s multi-physics simulation capabilities as a first step to enhance our collaborations in the field.
