Thrilled by PlasmaSurf Summer School

Following the yearly tradition established over the past seven years, the Portuguese Institute of Plasmas and Nuclear Fusion (IPFN), located in Lisbon, Portugal, organized the PlasmaSurf 2019 summer school in plasma physics, intense lasers and nuclear fusion from the 14th to the 21st of July. This year two members of our group, Jordi Manyer and Ignacio López de Arbina, were among the lucky applicants accepted to attend the school. Jordi’s participation was further sponsored by FuseNet, which we gratefully acknowledge.

The program of the PlasmaSurf summer school aims to provide introductory lectures on plasma physics and seminars on the hottest topics in nuclear fusion and intense lasers to new-coming students to the field.

The program is well organized to provide the student with lectures in the morning and afternoon and sport activities in the evening such as kayaking, climbing and of course surfing.

The classes and lectures are presented by expert researchers with a long trajectory in the field. This is reflected in the lectures at the time of transferring the knowledge to the students and motivation to boost their desire on building their research career in plasma and nuclear fusion.

The selection of attendees made the program a complete success allowing them to create knew contacts with people working in the same field and in different countries and institutions all around America, Europe and Asia.

Both Jordi and Ignacio are very pleased with their experience with the summer school and recommend it wholeheartedly to all newcomers to the field.
