Fusion Group participates in PRACEdays17 and wins the best poster award

Felipe Nathan de Oliveira receives the PRACE Best Poster award.

From May the 15th to the 18th, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center held the European HPC Summit Week 2017 and the PRACEdays17, an event focused on the usage of High Performance Computing in the industry and the academia.

We are particularly pleased to report that our Master student Felipe Nathan de Oliveira won the PRACE award for the best poster. His work entitled “Nonlinear electromagnetic stabilization of ITG micro-turbulence by ICRF-driven fast ions in ASDEX Upgrade” was short-listed for the presentation on May the 16th with other two candidates.

Severo Ochoa mobility brings fusion experts to BSC

Over the past couple of weeks, our Fusion group has counted with the visits of two Fusion Scientists from United States and Germany under the Severo Ochoa mobility program of Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). The program aims at enhancing partnerships between BSC and other institutions through grants for ongoing and incoming researchers.

BSC Turbulence Research features in EUROfusion Newsletter

This month’s edition of the EUROfusion‘s Newsletter reported on the research done by the fusion community on Plasma Turbulence using as an example the last Transport Task Force Meeting, which counted with the presence of our Fusion group member Felipe Nathan de Oliveira.

The meeting, held at Leysin, in Switzerland,  was attended by various scientists from around the globe and was an important step in the efforts of a global community in reaching the same goal, a clean and limitless energy source.

Plasma Conference At The Misty Mountain

In the week from 5th to 8th of September, the Fusion group member Felipe Nathan participated in the 21th Joint EU-US Transport Task Force Meeting, held in Leysin, Switzerland. The meeting gathered scientists from different parts of the world in the field of Thermonuclear Plasma Transport, mostly turbulent transport, and  share their successes and failures, in order to strengthen and uplift the scientific pursuit of Controlled Thermonuclear Fusion.

Barcelona Supercomputing Center in the Top500 list

 

The TOP500 project lists twice a year the 500 most powerful supercomputers in the world. The objective of the list is to observe trends in technology related to High Performance Computing and enlighten, ultimately, the importance of supercomputation to the development of Science and Engineering.

The MareNostrum supercomputer hosted by Barcelona Supercomputer Center occupies the position 106 in the TOP500 list this year.
