Our fusion lectures in the UPC Fusion Technology Course

This spring our fusion group contributes for the fourth consecutive year to the Fusion Technology Course of the Nuclear Engineering Master organized by Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, Spain.

This course is designed to offer the students an overview on selected key topics in Fusion Technology, delivered by specialist lecturers from F4E, UPC and our Fusion group at Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). The course is coordinated by Dr Shimpei Futatani who moved from our Fusion group to UPC last year.

Barcelona Energy Days – The Energy Transition

The European Union leads the clean-energy transition, aiming to reduce its greenhouse-gas emissions in 2050 by 80-95% from 1990 levels, which means almost decarbonising its energy system. The strategies for this transition were discussed today at the Energy Transition Conference in Barcelona organized jointly by the local UPC Barcelona-Tech University, Fusion for Energy, the Government of Catalonia and the municipalities of Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs.

The Fusion Group at Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is looking for a Junior Developer on Computational Modeling for Fusion with a degree in physics, computer science or similar. The position supports the developments in the group and involves different state-of-the-art technologies, with focus on deployment of research tools in the ITER Modelling and Analysis Suite (IMAS).

PhD grant opportunity in the Fusion group at BSC

Among the 20 predoctoral INPhINIT -“La Caixa” fellowships currently open for applications at Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC, Spain), our Fusion group offers a 3-year predoctoral research position in the field of Modelling of Ion Cyclotron Resonance Frequency Wave Heating for Fusion Plasmas. The position is under supervision of our Group Manager ICREA Research Professor Dr Mervi Mantsinen who has almost 20 years of international experience in the field of ICRF heating and fusion energy development.

BSC Annual Meeting 2017

BSC celebrated its Annual Meeting 2017 on Monday the 18th of December. The meeting started with a speech by BSC Director Mateo Valero and BSC Associated Director Josep Martorell about the BSC achievements in 2017 and the outlook for 2018, including answers to a number of questions raised by the personnel prior to the meeting.

The directors highlighted new processor, personalized medicine and artificial intelligence as the three current strategic key projects.
