The European Researchers’ Night is a Europe-wide public event, which brings research and researchers closer to the public and showcases its impact on citizens’ daily lives in a fun and inspiring way. The European Researchers’ Night attracts each year more than 1 million visitors in Europe and beyond.
All types of public, from schools, families and children to young people or adults of all ages, can learn about and participate in the science of their territory through different activities such as workshops, talks, shows, experiments, astronomical observations and games.
The European Night of Research is a European scientific dissemination project promoted by the European Commission within the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions of the Horizon Europe program.
This year, the event took place in 26 countries on Friday 30 September 2022. Spain is one of the countries involved and there have been scheduled events in Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Sevilla, Valencia, Girona, Lleida, Tarragona and Palma de Mallorca.
In Catalonia, the European Researchers’ Night has great reception and lasts for an entire week; this year this event has been held on the days before and after September 30, 2022.
Our research group participated in this event with a talk given by Dani Gallart and Xavier Sáez at Fabra i Coats: Fàbrica de Creació, Barcelona, on October 2nd. The talk was entitled “El cor de les estrelles a la Terra” and introduced what is fusion energy, how to produce it on the Earth, what we are doing in Catalonia in this field with the FusionCAT project and what we expect from the future.
The experience was good and we were pleased to introduce the public what we do and how our research can affect their lives improving our world. Our group is always open to participation in outreach activities which we consider are one of our responsibilities being part of a public research center.
The FusionCAT project (001-P-001722) has been 50% co-financed with € 1.960.963,66 by the European Fund for Regional Development of the European Union within the framework of the 2014-2020 ERDF Operational Program of Catalonia, with the support of the Generalitat of Catalonia.
