The Symposium of Multidisciplinarity

On May 4th – 6th, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center held the 3rd BSC International Doctoral SymposiumThe opening was done by Mateo Valero,  founder and director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.

The Symposium, aimed mostly to PhD and Postdoc students, gave them an opportunity to show their work and understand more about the research done in different fields interrelated with High Performance Computing.

The Fusion group presented two poster by its members  Albert Gutiérrez and Dani Gallart. The presentations were entitled: “Reproducing crowd turbulence with Verlet integration and agent modeling” and “Extrapolations of the fusion performance in JET”, respectively.

Carles Riera and Felipe Nathan, also members of the Fusion group, were part of the Organizing Committee as volunteers.

The fusion group manager Mervi Mantsinen chaired the First Talk Session: Post-Doctoral research, on the opening day.

On account of a Severo Ochoa excellence center, the Barcelona Supercomputing center has a compromise with the multidisciplinary and multifaceted approaches to science.

It is important for the students to understand how their research may be correlated with different fields of science and how they can enrich their investigation by sharing their knowledge with their peer coworkers.

The symposium included a visit to the facilities of the Supercomputer in the last day, where precise information about the machine was given and its future plans were briefly explained.
