A new Master student has joined our group

Our research group welcomes Juan Manuel Sanchez Melian as a new Master’s student to carry out his MSc thesis research project in our Fusion group. His six-month internship will give him the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of working with one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers, the MareNostrum 5. Furthermore, his research will focus on the timely and critical topic of nuclear fusion.

Juan Manuel Sanchez Melian, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and is studying a Master’s degree in Modelling for Science and Engineering at UAB. During his internship with us at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center he will work on simulations solving the Grad-Shafranov equation for a tokamak geometry using an iterative CutFEM solver.

Since its inception, our research group has been actively involved in training the next generation of fusion scientists. We have supervised five PhD students, as well as twelve Master’s and Bachelor’s thesis projects. In addition, we have hosted fifteen students for summer internships over the past twelve years.
