As customary in previous years, last week the 10th Edition of the PUMPS Summer School (Programming and Tuning Massively Parallel Systems) was held at Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC). The course is organized by Barcelona Supercomputing Center, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, UPC, and HiPEAC Network of Excellence. Our team member José Lorenzo had the opportunity to attend the course.
The goal of the school is to enhance the skills of researchers, students and teachers with state-of-the-art techniques and hands-on experience in developing applications for multicore processors with GPU accelerators. Special emphasis was put on Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications for which GPUs have proven to be very performant. The course has been taught by world-renowned experts in the field from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, NVIDIA, ETH Zurich and BSC/UPC.
José Lorenzo had the opportunity to learn about GPU programming while getting to know some of the wide applications of GPUs shown by some of the participants during the posters session: from image recognition to the modeling of blood system.
We want to congratulate the organizers and instructors for the 10th anniversary of the PUMPS Summer School, thank them for their great work in training researchers and students in GPU Technologies, and encourage everyone working in parallel computing to attend future editions. Furthermore, Barcelona Supercomputing Center has an extensive training program covering many topics in the field of HPC.
