On 27\u201328 November<\/strong> 2025, Juan Manuel S\u00e1nchez <\/strong>represented our group at the Espa\u00f1a Cu\u00e1ntica<\/a> <\/strong>conference, the grand finale of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology. The event took place at the Fundaci\u00f3n Ram\u00f3n Areces headquarters and was organized in collaboration with the Real Sociedad Espa\u00f1ola de F\u00edsica<\/strong> (RSEF), the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cient\u00edficas<\/strong> (CSIC), and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center \u2013 Centro Nacional de Supercomputaci\u00f3n<\/strong> (BSC-CNS), with support from the Quantum Spain<\/strong> initiative.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

To celebrate the 100th<\/sup> anniversary of quantum physics<\/strong>, Spain launched the Quantum Spain programme<\/strong>, supporting hundreds of research projects across the country from 2022 to 2025.\u00a0The meeting in Madrid celebrated the conclusion of this initiative. Juan Manuel<\/strong>, who recently joined our group and is involved in Quantum Spain, attended the event as part of our efforts to integrate quantum algorithms into plasma research<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The two-day event featured a wide range of talks highlighting the current quantum research landscape<\/strong> and the state-of-the-art technologies being developed across Spain and the European Union. Key themes included Spain\u2019s and the EU\u2019s strategies in quantum technologies<\/strong>, a review of the results achieved in Quantum Spain<\/strong>, and discussions on how the national quantum ecosystem will evolve now that the program has concluded.<\/p>\n

The event offered valuable insights into the progress of quantum technologies in fundamental science and real-world applications, such as computing, communications and sensing<\/strong>. It also emphasised the increasing potential of future quantum computers<\/strong> as powerful instruments for scientific research in a variety of fields, including our own: fusion and plasma physics.<\/strong><\/p>\n
