On November 21st<\/sup> and 22nd<\/sup><\/strong>, our team members Pau Manyer<\/strong> and Hern\u00e1n Domingo<\/strong> had the pleasure of attending the 5th<\/sup> Fusion HPC Workshop<\/a>, each giving a contributed talk to share their work.<\/p>\n

This year, the workshop featured over 30 talks on computer applications using High-Performance Computing (HPC) in the field of fusion research, and more than 320 participants from 44 countries following the online event.<\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hern\u00e1n’s talk was focused on his recent developments in a Finite Element Method (FEM) software to simulate the propagation of an EM wave in a 2D cross-section<\/strong>, following the work during his Master’s Thesis. The abstract of the talk can be found here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Pau presented his work on EQUILI, an HPC software module that computes the 2D plasma equilibrium configuration for an axisymmetrical plasma system (a tokamak,<\/strong> for instance) by solving the Grad-Shafranov equation using the CutFEM method. This code constitutes an important project at the Fusion group and was developed as Pau’s Master’s Thesis. The abstract of the talk can be found here<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n

This annual workshop, whose main organizers include the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and the Fusion Group<\/strong>, serves as an excellent networking and dissemination<\/strong> forum for both young and established researchers. The event continues to grow year after year as public interest in fusion and HPC applications increases. Both Hern\u00e1n and Pau enjoyed interesting and constructive exchanges<\/strong> with the audience, from which they gained new insights into the future work of their respective projects.<\/p>\n
