On February 29, in the CIEMAT headquarters in Madrid (Spain), a Workshop entitled \u201cFusi\u00f3n nuclear: iniciativas hacia DEMO\u201d<\/em><\/strong> was organized by CIEMAT<\/a>, CDTI<\/a>, and Ineustar<\/a>\/Induciencia<\/a> in close collaboration with IFMIF-DONES<\/a>, UNED, University of Sevilla (US<\/a>) and Technical University of Madrid (UPM<\/a>). Alejandro Soba<\/strong> and Dani Gallart<\/strong> from our research group attended this event.<\/p>\n

The main objectives of the workshop were to encourage public-private collaboration initiatives in the field, analyze Spain’s strengths in the different key technologies and discuss the plans for the future DEMO reactor.<\/p>\n

Based on the successful history of public-private collaboration on the nuclear fusion ecosystem in Spain, and following the infrastructure developing in the country, such as the TJ-II stellarator and fusion technologies from the National Fusion Laboratory – CIEMAT<\/a> and the future IFMIF-DONES<\/a>, the meeting proposed analysis of potential public-private initiatives in which developments in key technologies for fusion and for the future DEMO reactor.<\/p>\n

Three interconnected mini-workshops were developed: tritium technologies and materials, high temperature superconductor magnet technologies and remote manipulation<\/strong>. In each of them, several enterprises, universities, and public centers presented their capabilities and intentions for the future. Alejandro Soba<\/strong> made a brief presentation in the HTS technologies workshop, introducing the module MAGNET, developed in the Alya framework<\/a>, capable of simulating the behavior of superconductors of high-temperature (HTS) under the requirements of a fusion nuclear reactor environment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
