The website provides community forums for discussion which are open to all registered users as well as information about gender discrepancies in the Fusion workforce.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>WiF was established in 2021 following a successful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LCybxJa-9_g\">webinar at the Fusion Energy Conference (FEC2020)<\/a> <\/strong>which clearly showed the need to increase the representation of women in Fusion science and research. The organization is the fruit of a collaboration between <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iaea.org\">IAEA<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iter.org\">ITER<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.f4e.europa.eu\">Fusion for Energy<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ga.com\">General Atomics<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.euro-fusion.org\">EUROfusion<\/a>. Despite the strong participation of women studying STEM disciplines, when entering the professional arena women often face obstacles that block their paths to career advancement. Among others, this is leading to loss of talent via resignations from employment and plateauing of their activities below their full potential.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Chair of WiF, Dr. Sehila M. Gonzalez de Vicente<\/strong>, a senior expert in Fusion as Nuclear Fusion Physicist at IAEA, <strong>has been actively addressing the lack of gender parity in Fusion for many years<\/strong>, leading webinars at the IAEA and speaking regularly about the topic. As she explains, <em>\u201cWomen must play an active role in the development of new technologies to help society and to create the path that needs to be paved for women\u2019s leadership.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7633\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7633\" style=\"width: 715px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7633 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/committee_wif.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"725\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/committee_wif.jpg 725w, https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/committee_wif-400x236.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 725px) 100vw, 725px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7633\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">WiF steering committee. While <strong>none of the nine directors of the center is a woman<\/strong>, the situation with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsc.es\/discover-bsc\/organisation\/governance-boards\"><strong>Governance Boards<\/strong><\/a><strong> has improved<\/strong> slightly over the past years. However, still today, <strong>only about 25% of our center\u2019s workforce are female.
