Our group attended for the first time the European Congress on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering <\/a><\/strong>(ECCOMAS Congress 2022)<\/a> in its 8th<\/sup> edition which took place in Oslo during the second week of June. This year\u2019s congress is hosted by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)<\/a>, together with SINTEF<\/a> and the Nordic Association for Computational Mechanics in Engineering (NOACM)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With almost 2000 delegates attending this year and up to 31 simultaneous parallel sessions ECCOMAS is one of the biggest European forums for<\/strong> computational mechanics researchers<\/strong>. The scope of the conference includes all research aspects of Numerical Methods and Computer Simulations in Engineering.<\/p>\n

The range of research fields includes among others fluid dynamics, solid mechanics, fluid-solid interaction, digital twins, artificial intelligence, computational and theoretical aspects of the computations, and more related to fusion a whole mini-symposium entitled “Optimal Control and parameter estimation for plasmas”<\/a><\/em> and several scattered talks on plasma, multi-physics and radiation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our team member Pedro Bonilla<\/strong> presented his talk “Multi-physics simulation of heat harvest in fusion reactors with Alya HPC software”<\/a><\/em> emphasising the computational benefits of the strategy developed at Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC)<\/a> for coupling the fluid dynamics and the heat transfer modules<\/strong>. He also took the opportunity to introduce the group work to the community and the FusionCAT<\/a> consortium, which is financing this work.<\/p>\n
