{"id":6416,"date":"2021-09-23T17:30:07","date_gmt":"2021-09-23T15:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/?p=6416"},"modified":"2021-09-23T17:30:07","modified_gmt":"2021-09-23T15:30:07","slug":"14th-carolus-magnus-summer-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/index.php\/2021\/09\/23\/14th-carolus-magnus-summer-school\/","title":{"rendered":"14th Carolus Magnus Summer School"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6417 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/cmss.png\" alt=\"Carolus Magnus Summer School\" width=\"229\" height=\"220\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carolusmagnus.net\/\"><strong>14<\/strong><strong><sup>th<\/sup> Carolus Magnus Summer School on Plasma and Fusion Energy Physics<\/strong> (<strong>CMSS<\/strong>)<\/a> takes place this year <strong>between 20 September and 1 October<\/strong>. The event is held <strong>online and has attracted<\/strong> <strong>90 participants<\/strong> from around <strong>25 countries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Attending to CMSS has a long tradition in our group. Our group leader <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> was one of the participants in the 1<sup>st<\/sup> CMSS in Vaals, The Netherlands back in 1993 while our group member <strong>Dani Gallart<\/strong> with our ex-group member <strong>Allah Rakha<\/strong> participated in its previous 13<sup>th<\/sup> edition in Weert, The Netherlands, in 2018. <strong>To follow the tradition, our two PhD students, i.e. Tom\u00e1s Bensad\u00f3n and M\u00e1ty\u00e1s Aradi, attend the summer school this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The summer school is a biannual event, <strong>organised by excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carolusmagnus.net\/organisation\/organisation.html\">research institutes and universities<\/a> in the Trilateral Euregio Cluster (TEC)<\/strong> formed by Belgium, the Netherlands and the state of North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany. The Carolus Magnus Summer School is one of the major plasma physics summer schools in Europe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This year, the host institute is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fz-juelich.de\/\"><strong>Forschungzentrum J\u00fclich, Germany<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Students are introduced to a wide range of topics in nuclear fusion researches with the chapters from<\/strong> <strong>theoretical plasma physics<\/strong> (magnetohydrodynamics, transport, plasma heating, instabilities, plasma\u2013wall interaction etc.), <strong>numerical modelling<\/strong> and <strong>plasma diagnostics<\/strong>. Furthermore, the partner institutes present the research work that have an important role in the European research activities. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carolusmagnus.net\/programme\/programme.html\">The full programme is available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The summer school is a great opportunity for PhD students to learn from great experts and broaden their horizons in fusion plasma physics. In addition, <strong>the students can present their research activities in front of the scientific community<\/strong> as a ten-minute long presentation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you missed the Carolus Magnus Summer School this year, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carolusmagnus.net\/papers\/papers.html\"><strong>proceedings of the talks will be published<\/strong><\/a> with OpenAccess licence after the event.
