{"id":6398,"date":"2021-09-15T12:47:24","date_gmt":"2021-09-15T10:47:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/?p=6398"},"modified":"2022-05-30T11:44:24","modified_gmt":"2022-05-30T09:44:24","slug":"master-thesis-on-experimental-validation-of-a-new-hpc-modelling-tool-for-high-temperature-superconductors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/index.php\/2021\/09\/15\/master-thesis-on-experimental-validation-of-a-new-hpc-modelling-tool-for-high-temperature-superconductors\/","title":{"rendered":"Master thesis on Experimental Validation of a new HPC Modelling Tool for High Temperature Superconductors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6403 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/mtoriol.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/mtoriol.jpg 1138w, https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/mtoriol-400x225.jpg 400w, https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/mtoriol-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Our Fusion group member, <strong>Oriol Fern\u00e1ndez has successfully presented his Master thesis in the Master of Modelling for Science and Engineering<\/strong> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uab.cat\/en\">Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona<\/a> <span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><!-- Add university with the link --><\/span>entitled <em>Experimental Validation of a new HPC Modelling Tool for High-Temperature Superconductors<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This thesis was based on the work Oriol has been carrying out since last February in our group in close collaboration with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.icmab.es\/\">ICMAB<\/a> <\/strong>(Institute of Material Science in Barcelona)<span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><!-- Add web link --><\/span>, under the supervision of <strong>Jos\u00e9 Lorenzo<\/strong> and<strong> Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong>. The defense was held virtually due to the Covid19 pandemic on the 8th of September.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Oriol\u2019s research is focused on <strong>High-Temperature Superconductor modelling<\/strong> and is embedded in the <a href=\"https:\/\/fusioncat.es\">FusionCAT<\/a> <span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><!-- Add web link to fusioncat.es --><\/span>project. In particular, <strong>Oriol worked on the validation of the module magnet of the HPC code <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsc.es\/research-development\/research-areas\/engineering-simulations\/alya-high-performance-computational\">Alya<\/a><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><!-- Add link to Alya --><\/span> with experimental data from ICMAB<\/strong>. Apart from this, new implementations were done in the code for more realistic simulations. <strong>The results<\/strong> obtained during the research period <strong>showed that Alya was validated successfully with this experiment<\/strong> and <strong>with further improvements and validations can become a multiphysics HPC platform for superconducting HTS wires<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the upcoming months, Oriol will continue on the magnet module validation with experiments on <strong>AC losses<\/strong> as well as with the future <strong>coupling of MAGNET with TEMPER module in Alya<\/strong> in order to achieve a <strong>multiphysics<\/strong> code for simulating superconductivity cases accurately.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Oriol<\/strong> would like to thank the whole group for the support and valuable advice received for the presentation done and during all the internship.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><em><span lang=\"ca-ES\">This work is part of <\/span><\/em><em>the FusionCAT project co-financed by the European Union Regional Development Fund within the framework of the ERDF Operational Program of Catalonia 2014-2020 with a grant of 50% of total cost eligible.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6377 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusioncat_sign-400x37.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"70\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusioncat_sign-400x37.png 400w, https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusioncat_sign-1024x96.png 1024w, https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusioncat_sign.png 1296w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our Fusion group member, Oriol Fern\u00e1ndez has successfully presented his Master thesis in the Master of Modelling for Science and Engineering in Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona entitled Experimental Validation of a new HPC Modelling Tool for High-Temperature Superconductors.
