The Fusenet<\/a> PhD Event<\/strong> is an annual conference for PhD student in nuclear fusion in Europe, organised by Fusenet. In the recent year was held online on 23 and 24 November, due to the pandemic situation. The event is dedicated to\u00a0European doctorate students in nuclear fusion<\/strong> to provide an opportunity to share and discuss their work. From our group, PhD student M\u00e1ty\u00e1s Aradi <\/strong>and Tomas Bensadon<\/strong> participated in the event.<\/p>\n The programme started with an overview by Scientific Director of Max-Planck Institute for Plasma Physics<\/a> Prof. Dr. Sibylle G\u00fcnter<\/strong>, coordinator of the EUROfusion<\/a> consortium Prof. Dr. Tony Donn\u00e9<\/strong>, programme director of the ITER-NL consortium and Deputy Director-General of the DG Research and Innovation of the European Commission<\/a> Mr. Patrick Child<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The opening session was followed by the Pecha Kucha<\/strong> presentations of the doctoral students. The format comes from Japan, focusing to “talk less and show more”. The presenter shows 20 slides and has 20 seconds on each, which requires direct focus and speech.<\/p>\n We were listening to great presentations in varies topics of nuclear fusion, such as I-mode pedestal relaxation events, plasma-wall interaction modelling, kinetic ballooning mode or beam emission spectroscopy modelling.<\/p>\n The slide sections<\/strong> enfolded the parallel side sessions focusing on several related topics. The presentations held by invited speakers as experts then were discussed by the smaller groups of participants. Our group was represented by Jordi Manyer<\/strong> who was invited to give a talk the European Integrated Modelling (EU-IM), ITER Integrated Modelling & Analysis Suite (IMAS) and its high-performance computing applications<\/strong> in the side session of High-Performance Computing.<\/p>\n The first day’s programme finished by an informal evening session<\/strong> where the participants could broaden their network and meet other candidates all over Europe.<\/p>\n In the closing session, the participants voted to the best presentation of the event. The winner was Robert Davies<\/strong> with Exploring the physics of the Kinetic Ballooning Mode<\/strong>.
