On May 4th – 6th<\/strong>, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center held the\u00a03rd BSC International Doctoral Symposium<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>The opening was done by Mateo Valero<\/a>, \u00a0founder and director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.<\/p>\n

The Symposium, aimed mostly to\u00a0PhD and Postdoc students, gave them an opportunity to show their work and understand more about the research done in different fields interrelated with High Performance Computing.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Fusion group presented two poster by its members \u00a0Albert Guti\u00e9rrez<\/strong> and Dani Gallart.<\/strong> The presentations were entitled: \u201cReproducing crowd turbulence with Verlet integration and agent modeling\u201d<\/em> and \u201cExtrapolations of the fusion performance in JET\u201d<\/em>, respectively.<\/p>\n

Carles Riera <\/strong>and Felipe Nathan<\/strong>, also members of the Fusion group, were part of the Organizing Committee as volunteers.<\/p>\n

The fusion\u00a0group manager Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> chaired the First Talk Session: Post-Doctoral research, on the opening day.<\/p>\n

On account of a Severo Ochoa excellence center<\/a>, the Barcelona Supercomputing center has a compromise with the multidisciplinary and multifaceted approaches to science.<\/p>\n

It is important for the students to understand how their research may be correlated with different fields of science and how they can enrich their investigation by sharing their knowledge with their peer coworkers.<\/p>\n

The symposium included a visit to the facilities of the Supercomputer in the last day, where precise information about the machine was given and its future plans were briefly explained.<\/p>\n
