Allah Rakha on his PhD defence.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We are delighted<\/strong> to announce that our group member Allah Rakha<\/strong> has been granted with the title of PhD in physics<\/strong> after successfully defending<\/strong> his dissertation entitled “Analysis of energetic particle-driven Alfv\u00e9nic instabilities in tokamak and stellarator plasmas using three dimensional numerical tools<\/em><\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n

The evaluation board was composed by five members from five universities and research centers, i.e. EPFL<\/strong> (Switzerland), Ghent University<\/strong> (Belgium), Universidad de Sevilla<\/strong> (Spain), UC3M<\/strong> (Spain) and Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya <\/b>(UPC, <\/b>Spain), to meet the requirement of\u00a0 his co-tutelle PhD programme at Ghent University<\/strong> and UPC<\/strong>. The defence itself took place on September 27, 2019 at Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona (Spain).<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Throughout his PhD research period<\/span> of three years and a half, Allah Rakha has made many scientific contributions<\/b>. Here we mention his two first-author articles in the journal Nuclear Fusion<\/a><\/strong>, the first ranked journal in the field of fusion according the the Journal Citation Reports. One of the papers is \u201cModelling of beam-driven Alfv\u00e9n modes in TJ-II plasmas<\/a>\u201d, modelling results aimed at understanding a certain type of energetic-particle-driven instabilities called Alfv\u00e9n modes<\/strong> in TJ-II stellarator plasmas and their comparisons with experimental results. The other one is entitled “Shear Alfv\u00e9n wave continuum spectrum with bifurcated helical core equilibria<\/a>” and describes the first modelling results aimed at understanding\u00a0 <\/strong>Alfv\u00e9n eigenmodes (BAEs) observed during monster sawtooth crashes in ASDEX Upgrade tokamak plasmas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
