{"id":3629,"date":"2019-04-06T10:04:00","date_gmt":"2019-04-06T08:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/?p=3629"},"modified":"2019-04-08T09:57:07","modified_gmt":"2019-04-08T07:57:07","slug":"code-camping-at-iter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/index.php\/2019\/04\/06\/code-camping-at-iter\/","title":{"rendered":"Code Camping at ITER"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3648\" src=\"http:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_20190405_iter.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"751\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_20190405_iter.jpg 1632w, https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_20190405_iter-400x224.jpg 400w, https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_20190405_iter-1024x573.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>From the 1st to the 5th of April, our group has participated in the Code Camp<\/strong> of the EUROfusion <em>\u201c<\/em><em>Code Development for Integrated Modelling&#8221;<\/em> (WPCD) Work Package at<strong> ITER Headquarters <\/strong>in St. Paul-lez-Durance (France).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">WPCD develops generic and flexible sophisticated workflows for fusion physics applications, aiming at providing a validated modular suite for the simulation of complete plasma discharges of any existing and future tokamaks, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euro-fusion.org\/devices\/jet\/\">JET<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jt60sa.org\/b\/index.htm\">JT-60SA<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iter.org\">ITER<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/fusionforenergy.europa.eu\/understandingfusion\/demo.aspx\">DEMO<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The activities performed at the Code Camp targeted the main 2019 WPCD\u00a0<strong> milestones<\/strong>, focusing on the adaptation of codes and released workflows to the <strong>ITER Integrated Modelling &amp; Analysis Suite (IMAS)<\/strong><em>\u00a0 <\/em>and the demonstration of a core plasma workflow in IMAS, turbulence and synthetic diagnostics workflow, as well as the prototyping of control workflows. IMAS will support both plasma operation and research activities on the ITER tokamak experiment.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3647\" src=\"http:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG-20190405.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG-20190405.jpeg 4160w, https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG-20190405-400x225.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG-20190405-1024x576.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Ignacio L\u00f3pez de Arbina<\/strong><strong> and Mervi Mantsinen, members of <\/strong><strong>our group, worked in the in the integration of the PION code into the IMAS framework and into the Kepler workflow in order to deliver our contribution to the H&amp;CD (Heat and Current Drive) workflow. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">PION computes the electromagnetic wave power absorption in the ion cyclotron range of frequencies and the distribution functions of the ions resonant with these waves in a self-consistent way. It has been extensively compared against experimental results for a large variety of experiments on JET, AUG, DIII-D and Tore Supra.
