The course is coordinated by <strong>Dr Shimpei Futatani <\/strong>who moved from our Fusion group to UPC last year.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1988\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1988\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1988\" src=\"http:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/upc_ei-400x248.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/upc_ei-400x248.png 400w, https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/upc_ei.png 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1988\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">UPC Campus Nord, Barcelona, Spain<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this year&#8217;s edition, our group contributes to the course with the following two lectures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 27th March, <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> gave a lecture entitled <em>&#8220;Ion Cyclotron Resonance Frequency (ICRF) Heating in Fusion Plasmas&#8221;<\/em>. After introducing the basic principles of electromagnetic wave propagation in plasmas, the lecture focused on the use of electromagnetic waves in the ion cyclotron range of frequencies for plasma heating and current drive in fusion devices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 13th May, <strong>Xavier S\u00e1ez<\/strong> will give a lecture entitled <em>&#8220;Simulation codes in Fusion Technology&#8221; <\/em>focused on the role of High Performance Computing in fusion research.
