They <strong>participated in the experiments on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipp.mpg.de\/16195\/asdex\">ASDEX Upgrade (AUG)<\/a> tokamak<\/strong> as part of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.euro-fusion.org\/\">EUROfusion<\/a> 2018 Medium Size Tokamak (MST1) experimental campaign.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mervi <\/strong><strong>was the scientific coordinator of the experiments that\u00a0 successfully proved the use of waves tuned to the third harmonic ion cyclotron resonance of deuterium (D) to heat the plasma<\/strong>. Various diagnostics including neutron detectors and neutral particle analysers confirmed the presence of energetic D ions accelerated by resonant wave-particle interaction.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>These experiments are the continuation of experiments related with ICRF heating and fast ion physics carried out, analysed and modelled by Mervi and her collaborators.
