This meeting had the objective of sharing the new results on radiation damage in fusion materials.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2060\" src=\"http:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/logos_zagreb-400x65.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"121\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/logos_zagreb-400x65.png 400w, https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/logos_zagreb-1024x165.png 1024w, https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/logos_zagreb.png 1401w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In fusion reactors, high-energy neutrons are produced in nuclear reactions between fusion fuel particles. These neutrons, when colliding with the material wall of the reactor, can cause damage. <strong>The main goal of WPMAT-IREMEV is to understand and evaluate how different materials (pure elements or alloys) behave under irradiation<\/strong> in order to assess their viability to be used in a future fusion device.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2078\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2078\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2078 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/zagreb2-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"421\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/zagreb2-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/zagreb2-1-400x225.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2078\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Zagreb.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the meeting <strong>Marc and Stephan gave a talk <\/strong>entitled <em>&#8220;Linear scaling DFT simulations for large systems \u2013 application to vacancy defects in W&#8221;<\/em><strong> where they presented our new results on linear scaling Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations for metals using the <a href=\"http:\/\/bigdft.org\/Wiki\/index.php?title=BigDFT_website\">BigDFT<\/a> code<\/strong>. In particular, we have analyzed the formation energy of a specific radiation defect (single vacancy) in Tungsten, an element that could be used for the first wall thanks to its good properties under irradiation.
