{"id":1804,"date":"2017-04-21T18:06:17","date_gmt":"2017-04-21T16:06:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/?p=1804"},"modified":"2017-04-21T18:06:17","modified_gmt":"2017-04-21T16:06:17","slug":"bsc-fusion-group-improves-the-performance-of-fusion-codes-for-eurofusion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/index.php\/2017\/04\/21\/bsc-fusion-group-improves-the-performance-of-fusion-codes-for-eurofusion\/","title":{"rendered":"BSC Fusion group improves the performance of fusion codes for EUROfusion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1805\" src=\"http:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/hlst.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"751\" height=\"117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/hlst.png 873w, https:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/hlst-400x62.png 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 20 April 2017, our Fusion group researcher <strong>Xavier S\u00e1ez<\/strong> visited the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipp.mpg.de\/\">Max-Planck-Institut f\u00fcr Plasmaphysik<\/a><\/strong>, Garching, Germany, to participate in the bi-annual meeting of the EUROfusion High Level Support Team (HLST).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Xavier presented the work developed in the group to improve the performance of <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/landreman\/sfincs\">SFINCS<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/github.com\/feltor-dev\/feltor\">FELTOR<\/a> codes<\/strong>. SFINCS is a novel drift-kinetic solver which can be used to predict neoclassical flows in 3D magnetic configurations while FELTOR solves 3D full-F gyrofluid model equations with discontinuous Galerkin method.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.efda-hlst.eu\/\">High Level Support Team<\/a> (<em>HLST<\/em>)\u00a0 provides support to scientists from all Research Units of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euro-fusion.org\/\">EUROfusion<\/a> consortium<\/strong> for the development and optimization of codes to be used on supercomputers. Such a machine is the \u201cMARCONI\u201d supercomputer hosted by CINECA in Bologna, Italy with a total compute power of about 2 petaflop\/s.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">HLST consists of a core team based at the <em>IPP Garching (Max-Planck-Institut f\u00fcr Plasmaphysik)<\/em> and of high level support staff provided by the other Research Units of EURO<i>fusion<\/i>. <strong>The HLST members are all HPC experts<\/strong> with a background in developing large scientific applications and particular expertise in numerical algorithms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 20 April 2017, our Fusion group researcher Xavier S\u00e1ez visited the Max-Planck-Institut f\u00fcr Plasmaphysik, Garching, Germany, to participate in the bi-annual meeting of the EUROfusion High Level Support Team (HLST).
