This week, 14-18 November 2016, Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> and Felipe Nathan de Oliveira<\/strong> have participated in the 2017 Planning meeting of EUROfusion <\/a>Work Package on Medium Size Tokamaks<\/strong> (WP MST1) at the Max-Planck Institute for Plasmaphysics, Garching, Germany. <\/p>\n The week-long meeting was attended by about 90\u00a0fusion researcher from\u00a0all over\u00a0Europe.<\/p>\n WP\u00a0MST1 coordinates the European exploitation of three medium size tokamaks, i.e. ASDEX Upgrade <\/a>at IPP, Garching, Germany, MAST Upgrade <\/a>at CCFE, Culham Science Centre, Abingdon, United Kingdom and TCV <\/a>at CRPP, Lausanne, Switzerland.<\/p>\n Experiments on medium-size tokamaks complement the work done at the JET<\/a> tokamak to provide a step-ladder approach for extrapolations to future fusion devices ITER<\/a> and DEMO<\/a> and in areas where the MSTs have superior experimental capabilities and flexibility.<\/p>\n Mervi coordinates the MST1 modelling task on fast ions<\/strong> since 2014 and was recently re-elected to carry on in this role for the next two years. This task will be one of the four modelling coordination tasks of MST1 in 2017-2018.
