This paper was based on her invited talk at the 25<sup>th<\/sup> Topical Conference on Radio-Frequency Power in Plasmas (RFPPC) in May 2025.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>On January 8<\/strong>, <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> participated in the first meeting of the jury for the Barcelona City Awards in Fundamental Sciences and Mathematics at Barcelona City Council.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>On January 8<\/strong>, <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> was admitted to the pool of <a href=\"https:\/\/eic.ec.europa.eu\/eic-jury-members_en#list-of-eic-accelerator-remote-evaluators--technology-experts-and-evaluation-panel-members\">the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator call 2026 remote evaluators \u2013 Technology experts and Evaluation Panel members<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>On January 21<\/strong>, <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> participated in an Editorial Board Meeting of the Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion journal of IOP Publishing, online.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>On January 22<\/strong>, <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> participated in the second meeting of the jury for the Barcelona City Award in Fundamental Sciences and Mathematics at Barcelona City Council.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>On February 6<\/strong>, <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> participated in the 25<sup>th<\/sup> year Anniversary Celebration of ICREA.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>From February 9 to 13<\/strong>, <strong>Federico Cipolletta<\/strong>, <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> and <strong>Alejandro Soba<\/strong> participated in the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> EUROfusion ETASC General Meeting, Garching, Germany.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>On February 13<\/strong>, <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> visited Proxima Fusion, Munich, Germany and gave an invited talk <em>&#8220;Accelerating Stellarator R&#038;D with High-Performance Computing: Lessons from BSC\u2019s Integrated Modeling, HPC Optimization, and RF Physics&#8221;<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>From February 24 to 25<\/strong>, our group participated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/hpcfusion.bsc.es\">6<sup>th<\/sup> Fusion HPC Workshop<\/a>, online. The workshop is co-organized by our group, with <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> as the chair of the programme committee and <strong>Xavier Saez<\/strong> as a member of the local organization committee.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>On February 26<\/strong>, <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> participated in the new Trends in Fusion Engineering Analysis Workshop, co-organized online by F4E and BSC, and gave an invited talk <em>&#8220;The role of HPC in engineering analysis: present and future challenges&#8221;<\/em> and chaired a roundtable discussion session <em>&#8220;The role of HPC in engineering analysis&#8221;<\/em>. <strong>Ezequiel Goldberg<\/strong> and <strong>Federico Cipolletta<\/strong> attended the workshop and participated in the discussion sessions <em>&#8220;Engineering analysis workflow in complex systems&#8221;<\/em> and <em>&#8220;The role of AI in engineering analysis&#8221;<\/em>, respectively.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>On February 27<\/strong>, <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> chaired a Programme Committee meeting of the <a href=\"https:\/\/hpcfusion.bsc.es\">6<sup>th<\/sup> Fusion HPC Workshop<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>From March 2 to 4<\/strong>, <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> participated in the 4YFN conference in Barcelona, Spain, and gave a talk <em>&#8220;Accelerating Fusion Energy with Advanced Simulation&#8221;<\/em> at the BSC booth.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>On March 3 and 11<\/strong>, <strong>Alejandro Soba<\/strong>, <strong>Ezequiel Goldberg<\/strong>, <strong>Hern\u00e1n Domingo<\/strong>, and <strong>Marc Rodriguez Vitolo<\/strong> attended a course on creating miniapps with Alya.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>On March 4<\/strong>, <strong>Ezequiel Goldberg<\/strong> and <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> attended the IAEA-hosted webinar <em>&#8220;Defining a fusion power plant: Gauss Fusion\u2019s GIGA Conceptual Design&#8221;<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>From March 16 to 20<\/strong>, <strong>Juan Manuel S\u00e1nchez<\/strong> attended the Spring school about near term Quantum Computation in Benasque, Spain.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>On March 16<\/strong>, <strong>Adam Canarutto<\/strong> joined our group as a Master thesis student.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>On March 18<\/strong>, <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> participated in the jury of the PhD thesis entitled <em>&#8220;Gradient Boosted Decision Trees and Neural Networks for Accelerated Turbulent Transport Modelling of Tokamak Plasmas&#8221;<\/em> of Matisse Lanzarone at the Aix-Marseille University, France.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>On March 30<\/strong>, the paper <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1016\/j.nucengdes.2026.114859\"><em>&#8220;Enhancing a fuel performance tool for advanced modeling of spent fuel behavior under storage conditions&#8221;<\/em><\/a> was published in the journal Nuclear Engineering and Design written in collaboration with Argentinean researchers, by <strong>Ezequiel Goldberg<\/strong> and <strong>Alejandro Soba<\/strong>.\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>On April 2<\/strong>, <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong>, was awarded <a href=\"https:\/\/accreditations.ioppublishing.org\/125dd6f7-54ce-48b1-80ea-f1067eba7c70#acc.naGysoCv\"> a Trusted Reviewer status by IOP Publishing<\/a> in recognition of her commitment and expertise as a reviewer.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>On April 13<\/strong>, <strong>Mervi Mantsinen<\/strong> participated in the jury of the PhD thesis entitled <em>&#8220;Optimisation of fast-ion confinement via externally-applied magnetic perturbations in the MAST-U tokamak&#8221;<\/em> Of Lina Velarde Gallardo at the University of Seville, Spain.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/fusion.bsc.es\/index.php\/past-events-research-visits-and-conference-participation\/\"><strong>Go to past events<\/strong><br \/>\n(2025-2016)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2026 On January 7, the review paper entitled &#8220;40 years of ICRF Physics on the JET Tokamak: Highlights and Lessons Learned for Future Facilities&#8221; by Mervi Mantsinen et al. was published in EPJ Web of Conferences.
