The Fusion Group at Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is looking for candidates holding a PhD in a fusion related field (see below) or with a research engineering background.
Six Rings to Rule the ITER Plasma
Due to their exceptionally large dimensions, four of the six poloidal field coils that will be installed in the ITER machine cannot be produced off site and shipped, and therefore have to be manufactured in the Poloidal Field Coils Winding Facility, a factory set up on the ITER site in Caradache, France. Fusion for Energy (F4E), the European Domestic Agency, is in charge of procuring five of these magnets, and manages the Poloidal Field Coils Winding Facility and the contractors involved in their fabrication.
Our student finishes his final degree project with flying colours!
Mr Eric Planas arrived to the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) in early February as an undergraduate student seeking for an attractive topic for his final degree project. We are happy to announce that after 6 months he is now a graduate student and he has finished his bachelor studies in the best possible way… with flying colours!
Spanish Fusion HPC Workshop 2020
It is our pleasure to organize the 1st Spanish Fusion HPC Workshop as an online event with Zoom on 27 November 2020. The workshop covers all computer applications using High Performance Supercomputing (HPC) in the field of fusion research. These include, but are not limited to, numerical simulations in the following areas:
Virtual tour to the MareNostrum supercomputer
The Barcelona Supercomputer Center has enabled a virtual tour of the MareNostrum 4 supercomputer. This tour allows to discover one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe located in the beautiful chapel of Torre Girona. The chapel maintains ornamental elements such as stained glass and religious images that can be appreciated in the online visit. Moreover, the tour gives access to parts restricted to the public such as the inside of the supercomputer cage.
