More than three years ago, Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) was chosen as the Local Organizer (LOC) for the 47th European Physical Society (EPS) Conference on Plasma Physics on June 22-26, 2020, in Sitges, Spain. In April 2020, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the LOC together with the EPS Plasma Physics Division Board and the Programme Committee came to the conclusion that it is best to postpone the conference by one year to June 21-25, 2021.
Unfortunately, the outbreak is still on-going, and we have reluctantly had to conclude that it is not possible to deliver an in-person event in Sitges in June 2021. This decision reflects concerns and uncertainties arising from the present public health situation, which will inevitably affect all aspects of conference organization and travel on the relevant timescale.
The conference together with its satellite meeting will take place online. The dates of the conference remain unchanged: 21-25 June 2021. Please find our joint official announcement below which is also available on the conference web site.
The Programme Committee is committed to offering a fully up-to-date scientific programme, which will include the most important research results obtained in recent months. Proposals for additional plenary and invited talks have been collected via the Open Forum.
The Programme Committee chair, Dr Gerardo Giruzzi, will contact plenary and invited speakers – both previously invited, and additional – to discuss the new arrangements.
From 25th January to 19th February 2021, the abstract submission system http://ocs.ciemat.es/index.php/EPSCPP/EPS2020ABS will be open for new and updated contributed abstracts.
If your previously submitted abstract has been accepted, either as an oral or as a poster, its submission remains valid and there is no requirement for further action unless you want to modify or cancel your submission. You will have the option to log on to the submission system in order to modify it from 25th January to 19th February 2021. If you want to cancel an accepted contribution, please send an email to boudewijn.vanmilligen at ciemat.es with the name of the presenter, the title and ID number of the contribution as soon as possible.
The conference web site https://epsplasma2020.eu/ will be updated to reflect the new arrangements.
