Visit to Poznań to push forward HPC capabilities for fusion

In the frame of his three-year EUROfusion Engineering Grant (2018-2020), our group member Albert Gutiérrez has visited the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSCN), Poland, from the 14th to 18th of October. During his visit Albert worked closely with the EUROfusion Core Programming Team (CPT) member Tomasz Żok on the performance and integration of fusion codes on virtualized environments.

The visit was fruitful in advancing significantly the collaboration and pushing forward the HPC capabilities required for the EUROfusion community. During the visit Albert and Tomasz introduced and tested new MPI libraries as well as fusion relevant codes such as ASCOT and obtained results on the performance of the codes.

On Tuesday 15th October Albert gave an invited talk at the Poznań University of Technology entitled “Capabilities for HPC workflows in fusion”. In the presentation Albert introduced the HPC needs in fusion as well as the progress of his work. The presentation highlighted results on supercomputers Marconi and MareNostrum.
