Presentation of our research results at 45th EPS Conference on Plasma Physics

The 45th European Physical Society Conference on Plasma Physics took place in Prague, Czech Republic, from the 2nd to the 6th of July, 2018. It is the largest annual conference in the field organized in Europe. This year the conference attracted a record number of more than 850 registered participants throughout the world. Our group leader Prof. Mervi Mantsinen chaired the magnetic confinement fusion plasma section of the Program Committee.

This year our group members Mervi Mantsinen and Allah Rakha participated in the conference.

Mervi Mantsinen presented a poster entitled “Modelling of ICRF heating in ASDEX Upgrade discharges with pure wave heating relevant to the ITER baseline scenario” while Allah Rakha’s poster was entitled “Modelling of Alfvén cascades in NBI heated stellarator plasmas”.

Furthermore, Mantsinen co-authored five further contributions:

  • Plenary talk by M. Garcia-Muñoz et al., “Active Control of Alfvén Eigenmodes in Magnetically Confined Toroidal Plasmas”
  • Oral by J. Eriksson et al., “Measuring fast ions in fusion plasmas with neutron diagnostics”
  • Oral by M. Nocente et al, “A quantitative comparison between confined fast ion data and models from radio frequency heating experiments with the three ion scenario s at JET”
  • Poster presentation by M. Goniche et al., “Role of MHD activity triggered by fast ions in tungsten transport in JET hybrid discharges “
  • Poster presentation by J. Ferreira et al, “Effects of electron cyclotron resonance heating on toroidal Alfvén eigenmodes in tokamak plasmas”

The contributed papers are available through the online conference proceedings while papers resulting from invited and plenary talks will be published in a special issue of the journal Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion later this year.

Next year, the conference will take place in Milan, Italy, co-organized by the University of Milano-Bicocca (UNIMIB) and the Institute for Plasma Physics of CNR (IFP-CNR).

We look forward to seeing you in Milan next year!
